A little before 3am, City of Alva Crews identified the source of the new leak and by 4am they determined that the additional repairs were too extensive for our local crew to complete. At that time, emergency contractors were dispatched. At 7am we received notification that they were in route to Alva. The Alva Utility Authority also met for an emergency meeting at 7am and authorized the emergency repairs.
The Water Department is working on a 12 inch water line break on Harper road. Residents on the west part of town, West Maple, Young St/Sunset area and Share Drive will be affected during the repair. We will post updates as we have them.
Due to the possibility of severe weather this evening October 13,2026. The Alva Fire Department will be testing the City of Alva tornado warning sirens today at 3:00p.m.
The Street Department, in collaboration with Student volunteers, will be repainting the crosswalks on the downtown square today, October 8, 2026. Please be advised of potential intersection closures until the project's anticipated completion around 3 pm.
ODOT will be finishing Share Drive at US 281 on Monday 10/12/2026. This intersection will be closed all day, reopening sometime on Tuesday 10/13/2026. Please take Murray Drive to get to the hospital if coming from US 281.

City of Alva crews are conducting emergency water line repairs on 7th Street. This is not the work performed earlier, as the new valves are holding well. It is believed to be the same line in the same vicinity. Customers may experience low to no water pressure in the neighborhoods adjacent to 7th and Church. The time to repair is unknown at this time.

For those that have dumpsters and picked up on Wednesday, the trash truck has broken down and the drivers route has been delayed while they wait for a mechanic. We ask for your patience during the repairs and he will be by later today or tomorrow to dump the dumpsters. If your dumpster has not been picked up by Friday please call City Hall at 580-327-1340 and let us know.

Today 5th Street from High Street to the Boulevard will be closed from 9am-5pm. The road will be opened back up at the end of the day. This will be repeated tomorrow as well.

The Street Department will be performing a resurfacing project from High Street to Oklahoma Blvd, south of 5th Street, effective August 18, 2026. The area will remain accessible to traffic throughout the duration of the project.
The water department will be conducting repairs to a main water line in the vicinity of Lake Drive. Currently, we do not foresee any disruption to water services. We will provide updates to this post should circumstances change.
